THE UST Tiger Jins bagged twin victories on the second day of the UAAP Season 80 taekwondo tournament at the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagle gym Thursday.
Tiger Jin Isaiah Lorbes’ kick to the torso of FEU’s John Lloyd Sanchez, 22-13, sealed UST’s fourth win in the sixth game, 4-3.
UST led 3-2 against the Blue Eagles before Aries Capispisan sealed the win with a 27-6 beating against Leonell Garcia in the sixth game.
In women’s play, the Lady Jins overpowered De La Salle University and Far Eastern University.
UST quickly fired four straight wins after Lady Jin Alyssa Asegurado delivered a kick in the torso of Green Archer Arjyen Dazuin, 23-5.
Asegurado continued her winning streak after a sharp kick in the head of Lady Tamaraw Jessleen Lomibao in the fourth game, 23-2, to seal a 7-0 sweep in the series.
“We had a good performance pero may mga players na nagpabaya. We know the capacity of our players and we are still getting by. We are looking at the championship tomorrow,” UST assistant coach Gershon Bautista told the Varsitarian.
The Tiger Jins will clash against National University and University of the East while the Lady Jins will face Ateneo and NU in the final day of the tournament tomorrow at the same venue.
