THE UST boy’s swimming team took home the championship with a 6-9-4 gold-silver-bronze medal haul in the UAAP Season 80 swimming tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.

Their female counterparts clinched second place with a 5-3-5 gold-silver-bronze finish.

Junior Female Tigersharks Anna Althea Articona, Jesse Kirei Tan, Camille Buico and Elaine Esmille broke the 400-meter medley relay record with a 4:43.95 finish.

“Kahit pressured sila they did their best for UST. Nanatiling humble ang players kaya nakatulong ‘yun sa kanilang performance [ngayong taon],” UST juniors’ head coach Sharon Parungao-Mangrobang told the Varsitarian.

In the seniors’ division, the Female Tigersharks finished third while the Male Tigersharks failed to barge in the podium.

UST ended its campaign in the women’s division with four bronze medals for 105 points while their male counterparts had two bronze medals and settled for fourth place with 84 points.

Powerhouse Ateneo de Manila University took the overall swimming championship in the men’s and women’s divisions with 567 and 483 points, respectively.

Jux Keaton Solita was the lone Tigershark to grab a medal after clinching bronze in the 1,500-meter freestyle. He also bagged bronze in the 800-meter freestyle event during the first day of the tournament last Oct. 12.

Female Tigersharks Ryan Regidor, Samantha Cambronero, Celyn Parco and Jana Toledo nabbed a bronze medal in the 400-meter medley relay event.

UST has the most number of UAAP swimming titles with 32 and 30 titles in the women’s and men’s championships, respectively.
