THE UST Male Tennisters dropped to their third-straight loss after succumbing to the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 2-3, to open the second round of UAAP Season 80 men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Complex Saturday.

With the game tied at two matches apiece, Male Tennisters Mart Cabahug and Jaffary Carigo fell short to Blue Eagles Erj Gatdula and Luke Flores 5-7, 3-6, in the last match.

UST evened the game as the duo of Bernlou Bering and Dominic Lanzado scored a 6-2, 6-4 win against Anton Punzalan and Julian Dayrit.

“The second doubles was a deciding match and although the players did their best, we came up short. We will adjust the lineup for the next game,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.

After back-to-back losses in the first two matches, Male Tennister Christian Lopez kept UST at bay after nipping Blue Eagle Bong Gonzales, 6-1, 6-0.

The Male Tennisters fell to a 2-3 win-loss record.

UST will try to rescue a win against the University of the East Red Warriors on Feb. 25, Sunday, 12 p.m., at the same venue.
