A PAIR of culinary entrepreneurship sophomores were named first runner-up in the  Oro, Plato, Masa Nationwide Culinary Competition last Feb. 22.

Aira Joy Victorino and Carylle Angela Lapitan bested eight other teams in the Minatamis (Sweets) category of the competition, under the guidance of chefs Ramona Olga Ko and Reinald Andaya.

Lapitan and Victorino were inspired to join the nationwide culinary competition after winning gold in “H-cup,” a College-based culinary competition.

The duo secured their places in the preliminary screening with their winning recipe, a chocolate mousse sphere with fruits, pastillas sauce and Malagos chocolate from Davao.

“I think one factor that got us to win the first runner-up is the chocolate that we [used] in our chocolate sphere, [because] it is from a famous brand of chocolate in Davao,” Victorino told the Varsitarian.

UST’s Rhaianne Rizza Peralta and Javin Rondolo made it to the finals round in the “Ulam” (Savory) Category, which also had nine participating teams.

The Oro, Plato, Masa Nationwide Culinary Competition was held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay.
