PURSUANT to the University’s 2011 quadri-centennial celebrations, the UST Publishing House launched the first 20 titles of some 40 books set for publication this year during the 13th Philippine Bookfair at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall last September 7.

According to UST Publishing House director Mecheline Manalastas, this is the second batch of the 40 books to be published annually until UST’s 400th anniversary in 2011. It is a project of UST Rector Fr. Tamerlane Lana, O.P. dubbed “400 books for UST’s 400th”.

The philosophical and theological titles included Just From the Heart by Fr. Lana, Teacher of His Own by Jan Sareno, Karunungan 2002 by Philippine Academy of Philosophical Research, Sinner’s Journey to God by Ben Espinosa, Soaring Dreams by Jose Zuniga, Pagpapakatao by Dr. Florentino Hornedo, Bioethics 9 and Emerging Theological Themes 2, both edited by Fr. Fausto Gomez, O.P., and Pilgrim’s Way by Dr. Belen Tangco.

In addition, the literary-critical titles launched were Daigdig sa Pagitan by Ruth Elynia Mabanglo, Mga Lagot ng Liwanag by UST Center for Creative Writing (UST-CCWS) junior associate Michael Coroza, Sa Kagubatan ng Lungsod by Abdon Balde Jr., Asinta, a collaboration between poet-performance artist and former Varsitarian editor in chief Vim Nadera and former Varsitarian artist Pinggot Zulueta, In Karakter by Faculty of Arts and Letters Prof. Aurora Yumul, The Arrogant Ape and the Wise Firefly by Mirana Medina, Mga Dula sa Magkakaibang Midyum by Frank Rivera, Lorenzo Ruiz, Escribano: A Contemporary Verse Drama by UST-CCWS director Dr. Ophelia Dimalanta, and Myths and Metaphor by J. Neil Garcia.

Among the historical titles were Dominican Artists and Engineers by Dr. Hornedo, Pelikula at Pulitika by Julianito Villasanta and History of the Visayas in the Philippine Islands by Fr. Ignacio Francisco Alcinas, S.J., translated, edited, and annotated by Fr. Lucio Gutierrez, O.P. and Fr. Cantius J. Kobak , O.F.M.
