A FACULTY of Arts and Letters professor and Varsitarian alumnus received the 2002 Agora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Education last Nov. 26 at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila in Makati.

Prof. Ramon Osorio is the fifth Thomasian educator to receive the Agora award. The previous recepients were Dr. Carolina Prada, Prof. Roger Buhay, Dr. Felix Lao, and Prof. Corazon Arboleda. All are currently teaching at the UST Graduate School.

The Agora awards are presented by the Philippine Marketing Association to recognize excellence in marketing. The theme of the 23rd Agora Awards was “Tatak Pilipino, Tatak World Class”.

Secretary-General Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P. said Osorio’s award is another honor to the University.

“I’m very happy for Professor Osorio. With him being the fifth Thomasian award winner in the past 23 years, it just shows that we produce excellent-quality graduates in marketing and promotions. Besides, it is another honor for UST because they, as professors of the school, would be able to share their talents to our budding marketing aspirants,” Father Cabading said.

According to Osorio, the award gave him a sense of satisfaction.

“Of course, I am elated,” Osorio said. “It is a recognition of the 23 years I have invested molding young minds thirsting for a road map to a rewarding marketing career.”

According to Agora, as a trustee of the academe of the Advertising Board of the Philippines, Osorio contributed to the drafting of a proposed curriculum for an integrated marketing communication course. He also chaired the education committee of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines for two years where he coordinated seminars for junior members of the marketing business and expanded these to middle-level practitioners. He also held orientation programs for non-practicing professors of marketing to enable them in preparing the students for the demands of the field. Moreover, he chaired the UST Department of Communications for 18 years until 2000.
