FOR THE first time, the University hosted the conference of the Association of Philippine Universities on Sino Studies (APUSS), an organization linking the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Education with eight member universities in Metro Manila. The Ministry promotes China’s educational programs and invite presidents of Philippine universities to explore possibilities of tie-ups.

Aside from UST, members include, Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Centro Escolar University, Philippine Normal University, University of Asia and the Pacific, University of the East, University of the Philippines, and De La Salle University.

Dr. Belen Tangco, APUSS treasurer and UST’s representative, said the conference discussed future projects and visits by university presidents and representatives to China. In addition, possible exchange programs were discussed.

“We are working on some academic linkages and we hope to have the signing this December,” Tangco said.

APUSS will have another conference on August 9 at the ADMU for a final discussion on possible projects. Ma. Cristina S. Lavapie
