TWO FORMER Varsitarian staff members are now holding key government positions.

President Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed former Varsitarian news editor Heraclio Celesteno “Rocky” Nazareno press undersecretary.

Nazareno graduated from the University with a BSC Business Administration degree in 1988. He was also the Commerce Journal editor in chief from 1986-87.

Prior to his Malacañang appointment, Nazareno was a senior reporter at the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Nazareno joins another Thomasian in the President’s information team—Assistant Secretary and Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Isabel de Leon, a former news reporter of the Varsitarian (1985-1986), A.B. Journa-lism graduate, and senior reporter on leave of the Manila Bulletin.

Meanwhile, former Varsitarian news reporter Charlotte Tang was promoted as Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) foreign service officer at the Philippine Embassy in Beijing early this month. She’s now vice-consul of the embassy.

Tang, a career diplomat, graduated from the University with an AB Journalism degree in 1988. She also has graduate degrees from the UP-Diliman and the Beijing University. She was with the Varsitarian from 1987-88.
