GAMBLING educates.

Last June 20, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) chairman and chief executive officer, Efraim Genuino personally handed a check of P5 million to the UST Research and Endowment Foundation at the Office of the External Affairs/Grant’s Office.

UST Rector Fr. Tamerlane Lana, O.P. personally received the amount, with Vice-Rector Juan Ponce, O.P., Secretary General Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P., and Dr. Ramon Sin, assistant to the rector for external affairs, in attendance.

It was the first time Pagcor donated money to UST.

“It’s a little disconcerting because of the fact that we are asking from a gambling outfit—a casino. But then everybody is asking from them and it’s for a good cause,” said Sin.

Aside from Pagcor, the school’s US-based alumni and major companies like Lucio Tan’s Asia Brewery support the University’s scholars.

Despite these grants, the money for scholarship grants are still insufficient.

“We are always short on money because there are so many students who are entitled to study here, but do not have the financial means to do so. That is why we have to look for more sources,” Sin said.

  1. Five million is a super donation no matter where the money came from. As long as the people don’t sell their souls for it – it will do a lot of good.
