THE UNIVERSITY’s Chemical Engineering department topped in the Inter-University Chemical Engineering quiz show last Aug. 16 at the University of the Phlippines (UP)-Diliman.

UST, winning its third Inter-University championship, edged out De La Salle University and UP-Los Banos, which settled for second and third, respectively.

Chemical Engineering coach, Prof. Michael Benjamin, said the team members were given enough training and modules in order to prepare the team for the quiz bee.

“The department held a mock quiz bee to prepare them for the contest proper,” Benjamin told the Varsitarian. “An engineering subject was also assigned to each member.”

The quiz bee focused on different areas of General and Chemical Engineering such as physics, algebra, geometry, differential equations, organic and analytical chemistry, among others.

“At first, we were just hoping to make it through the elimination round,” Benjamin said. “But due to the diligence of each member of the team, we won the contest.”

The annual quiz bee was organized by the UP Chemical Engineering department. The judges were also taken from the different Science and Engineering departments of UP. Leonard James D. Pos-trado
