A GROUNDS maintenance crew who allegedly stole a wallet from a fifth year Electronics and Communications Engineering student last Dec. 4 at the Colayco Park was arrested by a University security guard.

According to head guard Joel Marie Gomez, Rolly Casica initially denied the theft, but the guards insisted on checking his locker, where they found the money which student Jerome Albert Bayot claimed was his.

According to Casica, he was “surprised” when he saw the wallet that he immediately took it without bothering to ask the students around or giving it to the authorities.

“Sana magpasensya nalang sila sa ginawa ko,” he told the Varsitarian.

Bayot, meanwhile, said he and his friends where in a gazebo at the Colayco Park when he noticed that his wallet was missing. He then immediately reported it to the guards.

Bayot said he earlier noticed Casica cleaning the area near them that gave him the idea that the janitor might have picked up the wallet.

Bayot said he does not intend to file a complaint against Casica, who is from the Joseph Server & Associates, Inc. (JSA), the company that maintains the gardens and grounds of the University.

“Okay na ‘yung nabawi ko ‘yung pera ko,” Bayot said.

Gomez, however, said the Center for Human Resource and Department, in cooperation with the Office for Student Affairs, and JSA, is now investigating Casica’s case.
