UST RANKED second in both the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and the Chemical Engineering (CE) professional licensure exams last month.

In the 20 to 49 examinees category of the ECE board, the University registered a 61 per cent passing rate as 14 of the 23 Thomasians who took the exam passed. UST’s passing rate dropped from last year’s 63 per cent.

University of the Philippines–Diliman secured the top spot in the category with its 96 per cent passing rate as 22 of the 23 students passed the exam. De La Salle University (DLSU) had a 76 per cent passing rate as 80 of the 105 students passed. This year’s national passing rate dropped to 35.10 per cent from last year’s 36 per cent as 889 out of 2,534 passed.

Lourdes Baldelomar, chief of the ECE Department, said that although UST’s passing rate dropped, the University is still among the top performing schools. She explained UST places “either first or second, and seldom third,” in the board.

Meanwhile, in the CE board examinations, the University ranked second to DLSU in the 21 or more examinees category with a 58 per cent passing rate as 22 of the 38 Thomasians passed the board. The University’s passing rate dropped from last year’s 94 per cent.

The national passing rate, however, increased to 46.45 per cent as 157 of the 338 takers passed as compared to last November’s 44.37 per cent passing rate.

Meanwhile in the Electrical Engineering (EE) licensure examination, UST posted 67 per cent passing rate, as eight of its 12 takers passed. The passing rate was a retreat from last year’s 69 per cent and was UST’s lowest in the board in six years.
