FIFTEEN new fellows, including five UST Journalism students, attended the Sixth UST National Writers’ Workshop held by the Center for Creative Writing and Studies (CCWS) from April 18 to April 23 in Tagaytay City.

The fellows for poetry in English were Glenn Atanacio, Varsitarian Literary writer Sharline Bareng, alumna and former Varsitarian News writer Abigail Austriaco, Benedict Parfan, Cherie del Rio, Herminia Gabutina, Emmanuel Rentoy, and Raymond de Borja.

On the other hand, the fellows for poetry in Filipino were Ericka Emas, Beverly Siy, and Noraida Velarmino.

In the English fiction category were Ronald Benusa and Russel Mendoza, while Zarinah Escover and Camille Banzon were the fellows for short story in Filipino.

The fellows were chosen after their entries underwent meticulous deliberation by the panelists: CCWS director Dr. Ophelia Dimalanta, senior associate Dr. Cirilo Bautista, junior associates Eros Atalia, Lourd de Veyra, Nerisa Guevara, Ramil Gulle, Carlos Luz, and Jose Victor Torres, and former junior associate Michael Coroza, who was a guest panelist.

The workshop also served as the “baptism” of former Thomasian Writers’ Guild president Angelo Suarez, a Literature alumnus, as the Center’s new assistant program director starting June.
