September 8, 10:00 p.m. – THE THOMASIAN community earlier today celebrated the Holy Eucharist in commemoration of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s birthday, paying tribute to all mothers at the same time.

After the Rosary at the Tan Yan Kee Student Center lobby, a procession of the Blessed Mother’s image to the Santisimo Rosario Parish Church followed.

A solemn High Mass was led by Fr. Winston Cabading, O.P., vice rector for religious affairs, who said that “mothers have their own ways to penetrate and to enter the hearts of their children.”

“The reason why Filipino Catholics love the Virgin Mary very much [is] because [she] penetrates our heart with love,” Cabading said.

Cabading added that the miracle at Cana, the first miracle by Jesus Christ, was done because of the intercession of his mother, Mary.
The Virgin Mary is in the hearts and minds of Catholics worldwide, and this is the reason why people care for their mothers, he said.

Cabading also encouraged the Filipino youth to stop using bad words, especially the term ending in “ina.”

“The term mother is not only referring to our mothers, but also to the heavenly mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary,” he said. “The call of the Virgin Mary is the call of the mothers.”

“Mary is a mother. Her role for us as Thomasians is as [a] mother, and she leads us to Jesus Christ. As mother, she shows to us her motherly love,” Cabading said.

“If we love her, we also love who she loves and that’s Jesus Christ.” James Bryan J. Agustin
