PINAGSAMA ang ilang departamento ng Conservatory of Music upang makatipid sa pondo.
“The [budget committee] wants us to consolidate some departments. Actually, it’s not the most ideal situation but we’re just forced to cut down based on the budget,” ani Raul Sunico, dekano ng Music, sa isang panayam.
Simula ngayong taon, ang 14 na departamento (Piano, Voice, Strings, Guitar, Theory and Composition, Music Literature, Conducting, Music Education, Percussion, Jazz, Brasswind, Woodwind, Music Technology at Music Theater) ay naging pito na lamang.
Ang mga bagong departamento na pinamumunuan ng mga propesor ng konserbatoryo ay binubuo ng: Piano Performance sa pamumuno ni ni Anthony Say; Vocal Performance (Voice, Music Theater) ni Ronan Ferrer; Guitar Performance na pinamumunuan ni Alberto Mesa; Music Education (Piano, Strings, Guitar, Band, Choral and Orchestral Conducting, Voice, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, and Music Literature) ni Herminigildo Ranera; Musicology (Music Literature, Music Technology, and Jazz Studies) ni P. Leo Nilo Mangussad, Symphonic Instrumental Performance (Strings, Woodwind and Brass, and Percussion) ni Adolfo Mendoza; at Theory Composition and Conducting (Choral and Band) sa pamumuno ni Fidel Calalang Jr.
Ayon kay Sunico, maaring magdulot ng problema sa kalidad ng mga departamento ang pagsasama-sama ng ilan sa mga ito.
Sa kabilang banda, hindi pa naaaprubahan ang kabuuang budget para sa mga kolehiyo at pakultad ng Unibersidad ngayong akademikong taon.
Sinubukang kunin ng the Varsitarian ang pahayag ni Fr. Manuel Roux, O.P., bise-rektor para sa pananalapi, tungkol sa pagbawas ng mga departamento at pagtitipid ng pondo sa konserbatoryo ngunit hindi ito nagbigay ng sagot. Arianne F. Merez
