18 September 2015, 5:36 pm TWO THOMASIAN artists were among industry veterans given the Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining 2015 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines yesterday .

Thomasian fashion designer Ben Farrales received the Gawad CCP for Design. Highlights of his six decades in the fashion industry were presented in an audio-visual tribute.

Roberto Chabet, who finished architecture in UST in 1961, was given the Gawad CCP for Visual Arts. He is known as the pioneer of conceptual art in the Philippines.

Other recipients were Nora Aunor for Film and Broadcast Arts, Paulo Alcazaren for Architecture, Leoncio Deriada and Ricardo Lee for Literature, Basilio Villaruz for Cultural Research, Fides Cuyugan-Asensio for Music and Antonio Mabesa for Theater.

The Missionary Society of St. Columban received this year’s Tanging Parangal for its support to ecclesiastical art since 1929. The Tanging Parangal award is given to organizations for outstanding contribution to the development of art in the country.

The event opened with the music of Lucio San Pedro performed by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Olivier Ochanine.

The Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining is given every three years to artists who have produced exceptional works in their respective fields. Amierielle Anne A. Bulan and Ethan James M. Siat
