September 21, 2015, 9:11p.m. – IN PREPARATION for the 2016
national and local elections, the UST Engineering Student Council (ESC) will
host a satellite voter registration and “biometrics” validation on
Sept. 24.

The registration, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at
the Tan Yan Kee Student Center, is only for Thomasians who reside in Manila.
Students who want to register will be requested to present a valid
identification card.

“In line with promoting social awareness, our council is
spearheading the voters’ registration and we were able to tap the National
Commission on Elections (Comelec) as well as Aktiboto, [a voter education
program spearheaded by the UST Central Comelec],” ESC President Sharlene
Santiago told the Varsitarian.

Santiago said new voters from all six districts of Manila,
covering the areas of Tondo, Gagalangin, Binondo, Quiapo, San Nicolas, Santa
Cruz, Sampaloc, Ermita, Malate, Paco, Port Area, Intramuros, San Andres Bukid,
Pandacan, San Miguel, Santa Ana, and Santa Mesa, would be able to register.

Thomasians residing outside Manila should register with
their respective National Comelec offices.

Deadline of voter registration for the 2016 elections is on
Oct. 31. The National Comelec is also requiring all voters to submit to
biometric validation consisting of electronic fingerprinting and signatures.

To make the process more accessible, the National Comelec
has partnered with selected malls nationwide for satellite voter registration. K. V.
