March 7, 2016, 9:52p.m. – VETERAN teachers of UST High School were given lifetime achievement awards last Saturday for dedicating their lives to education.

Eleven retired and active mentors took center stage at the reunion of the graduates of UST High School Class of 1996 in Quezon City. The awardees included two former principals, English teacher Zenaida Roda (2002 to 2005) and science teacher Eden Tolentino (2005 to 2011).

Also honored were well-loved high school mentors Agripina Manapat (history), Isabelita Viray (mathematics), Imelda Beley (Filipino), Margarita Cruz (Filipino), Ma. Isabel Casas (values education), Jesusa Brion (technology and home economics), Ma. Concepcion Cachero (mathematics), Imelda Rosales (science), and Rufino Villamar (science).

The awards were a “testimony to an exemplary record of service in molding generations of young minds into competent, compassionate and committed Thomasians,” the citation read.

Members of the Class of ’96 also marked the 20th year of their graduation from UST High School by donating to charitable causes: the Tulay ng Kabataan Foundation, a child afflicted with a rare skin disease, and the family of the late batch salutatorian, Dr. Charlemagne Aguinaldo.

Among the graduates of the batch is Rudi Ramin, also an accounting graduate of UST who had worked for Unilever and Google, and became the first Filipino valedictorian of the prestigious Insead Business School in 2014.
