Oct, 8 2016, 10:19 p.m. – THE BEST and outstanding theses of UST advertising arts graduates were showcased in “Abyerta: Advertising Arts Thesis Exhibition 2016,” an exhibit at the Beato Angelico Gallery last Oct. 3 to 7.

Mary Christie Que, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design, said Abyerta was one of the college’s biggest thesis exhibitions.

The exhibit featured 24 creative outputs in the categories of animation and theater production designs, book illustrations, non-traditional political advertisement campaigns and coffeetable books.

Former Varsitarian photographer Amparo Klarin Mangoroban captured the lives of athletes in her photography book “Soul on Sole: Of People Driven by Passion.”

Mangoroban photographed athletes in their best forms, witnessing the “extraordinary efforts” they put into their respective sports.

“When you see athletes perform, you easily spot their skills and their achievements and that’s what makes them genuine,” Mangoroban said.

Exhibitor Eula Andrea San Juan made a production design for theater based on the 2011 Filipino animated film “Dayo: Sa Mundo ng Elementalia” by Cutting Edge Productions.

San Juan designed costumes and advertisement posters that represented the characters of the animated feature.

“I have observed that a lot of foreign theater companies visit the country, so I thought why not produce a theater production that promotes the Filipino culture?” San Juan said in an interview with the Varsitarian.

Jeninah Lozada recreated “The Secret of Platform 13,” a children’s book by British novelist Eva Ibbotson. She depicted in a six-frame cutting felt cloth the climactic scenes of the novel, using acrylic paint and colored pencils.

Other exhibitors included Michael Balana, Mia Batungbacal, Jahren Bautista, Edrian Baydo, Bianca Bonifacio, Paul Calla, Betina Continuado, John Dimayuga, Eistiene Donaire, Beatriz Espino, Diego Garcia, Christian Gumaya, Cherisa Hernandez, Marie Lama, Angela Pascual, Melvin Quito, Dennise Reyes, Carino Rigor, Ma. Josephine Sanchez, Aviette Sumaoang and Justin Vallejo.
