THE DEAN of the College of Education has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to the Teacher Education Council of the Department of Education.

Prof. Allan de Guzman will represent Luzon in the council for three years, from 2017 to 2020.

De Guzman will be in charge of parents-teachers and community associations, student associations, nongovernment organizations and people’s organizations concerned with basic education.

The Teacher Education Council was formed in 1994 in accordance with Republic Act 7784, or an “Act Strengthening Teacher Education in the Philippines.”

RA 7784 states that the council shall be composed of seven members appointed by the President, with one representative each from Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Teachers for science, mathematics, social studies and language must also have one representative each.

“The members of the Council shall serve without any compensation but shall be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred by them in carrying out their duties under this Act,” the RA 7784 states.
