UST registers 43-percent passing rate in February 2018 mech eng’g board exams

THE UNIVERSITY recorded a 42.86-percent passing rate in the February 2018 licensure exams for mechanical engineers, with three out of only seven examinees making the cut.

This was down from last year’s 72.73 percent, or eight out of 11 examinees.

Kevin Macatangay of Batangas State University-Alangilan led the country’s fresh batch of mechanical engineers with a score of 88.75 percent.

Batangas State University-Alangilan was the top-performing school, with a 99.15-percent passing rate or 117 successful examinees out of 118.

The national passing rate for mechanical engineers slipped to 47.04 percent, or 933 out of 1,983 examinees, from last year’s 56.88 percent, or 1,083 out of 1,904 examinees.

  1. What is happening to our engineering programs? This passing percentage is alarming. We should look into this. This is not characteristic of UST.
