STUDENT publications and organizations from the University and partner schools have launched a fact-checking and voter education initiative for the upcoming 2019 midterm polls.

Christian Deiparine, editor in chief of the Varsitarian, said it was high time for Filipinos to hold candidates to a higher standard.

“It should not only be [about] voting for deserving candidates, it is also about making sure that others, even those not of our age, will make an informed choice,” Deiparine said during the launch of “Pintig.ph,” a voter advocacy and political fact-checking website last March 16.

“Pintig.ph” or “Pinag-Isang Tinig Para sa Pagbabantay sa Halalan” will feature profiles of candidates for the Senate and partylist elections, including their stances on pressing political and social issues.

The website is a joint effort between Thomasian campus papers, the Varsitarian and The Flame, and societies of students from UST Journalism, Economics and Political Science.

The website launch saw the signing of manifesto of commitment of participating publications and organizations from UST and partner journalism societies from Bulacan State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and the University of the East.
