MANILA Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso ordered a week-long suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools, from March 9 to 15, as a preventive measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The University suspended classes beginning 5 p.m. on March 9 and advised faculty members to use the UST Cloud Campus online facility “for instructional delivery and quality.”

“The community is further advised to heed all precautionary measures pertaining to health and monitor legitimate news sources for updates,” the advisory from the Office of the Secretary General read.

Classes in San Juan, Marikina, Pasay and Navotas were also suspended.

The Department of Health confirmed the first case of local transmission of Covid-19 last March 7, involving a 62-year-old Filipino male who did not travel abroad recently.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the Department of Health’s recommendation to declare a state of public health emergency on March 7.

The Philippines has a total of 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of March 8.
