ASST. PROF. Peter Torres of the biochemistry department passed away on Wednesday. He was 63.
Described by many in UST as the “Filipino Albert Einstein,” Torres earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and master’s degree in chemistry at the University.
He was elected to the board of the Philippine Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2017.
“I will always remember Sir Peter for every good laughter we shared especially when we were once partners in the laboratory,” Alexis Labrador, a biochemistry professor, told the Varsitarian.
“[H]e had supported a lot of students from scholarships, and [even gave] sponsorships to faculty and student activities,” Labrador said.
A requiem Mass was offered on Saturday at the Santisimo Rosario Parish.
