Vlogger Margaux “Mocha” Uson and Philippine national hero Jose Rizal were among the notable Thomasians who contributed to the University’s showing in EduRank’s 2023 ranking of Philippine universities, where it ranked fourth.
EduRank’s rankings factored in the total number of page views for the Wikipedia pages of individuals associated with universities, such as graduates.
Among the top 100 most notable Thomasians, according to Edurank, are Filipino heroes Rizal, Emilio Jacinto, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Apolinario Mabini; Philippine presidents Manuel Luis Quezon, Sergio Osmeña, Jose P. Laurel and Diosdado Macapagal; celebrities Uson, Aubrey Miles, and Hayden Kho; and sports personalities EJ Obiena, Alyssa Valdez, and Jeric Teng.
EduRank’s metric-based ranking assessed higher education institutions according to their research performance (45 percent), non-academic prominence (45 percent), and alumni score (10 percent).
UST ranked fourth out of 229 Philippine universities, 781st out of 5,830 Asian universities, and 2,575th out of 14,131 universities worldwide.
It recorded 1,739 publications and 23,938 citations.
The medicine program was the top contributor of publications (586) and citations (15,545) for UST.
It was followed by biology with 378 publications and 10,113 citations, and the liberal arts and social sciences with 342 publications and 2,313 citations.
Other programs of the University were in the top 10 in the Philippines: medicine (No. 2), psychology (No. 3), biology (No. 5), mathematics (No. 5), chemistry (No. 6), liberal arts and social sciences (No. 6), computer science (No. 7), economics (No. 7), business (No. 8), engineering (No. 8), and physics (No. 9).
The University of the Philippines Diliman was the country’s top University, while De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University took the second and third spots, respectively.
Harvard University was ranked No. 1 worldwide, with 478,072 publications and 40,762,891 citations.
Japan’s University of Tokyo was the sole Asian University to be ranked among the 50 best universities worldwide.
