THE UST Tiger Tracksters reaped four medals on the opening day of the UAAP Season 86 athletics tournament at the PhilSports Sports Oval in Pasig on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

UST tallied a 1-1-1 gold-silver-bronze medal haul in the women’s division, while the Male Trackers secured a gold medal in the men’s division.

Female Trackster Lianne Pama spearheaded UST’s championship defense by nabbing gold and breaking her UAAP record in the women’s 100-meter dash event, clocking 11.84 seconds.

Pama started the day registering the highest in qualifying with 11.71 seconds breaking her previous record last year with 11.74 seconds.

Anticipated debutant Hokett de los Santos lived up to expectations after clearing 5.00 meters for the gold medal in the men’s pole vault event.

De los Santos was far away the most seasoned in the event after he clinched gold by clearing 4.35m in his first attempt of the day. The rookie immediately attempted for the 5.00-meter bar, clearing it on his second try.

He also led the men’s decathlon race through five events with 3,478 points.

In women’s play, another anticipated rookie, Season 85 girls’ athletics MVP Jeanne Arnibal, nabbed silver in her collegiate debut with a 1.60-meter clearance in the women’s high jump event.

Season 85 gold medalist Lanie Carpentero notched a bronze in the women’s hammer throw event after reaching 36.03 meters.

The UST Female and Male Tracksters will be back in action for Day 2 at the same venue today, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m.
