 THE UST Junior Tiger Tracksters collected nine medals in the UAAP Season 86 juniors athletics events at the PhilSports Track Oval in Pasig on Wednesday, Nov. 22. 

Junior Female Trackster Iza Pangilinan set a new league record in the girls’ 100-meter dash event with a 12.43-second performance, surpassing the previous records of UE’s Ellah Sirilan and NU’s Eliza Cuyom of 12.44 seconds.

Lyka Miravelles and Ashley Tabad clocked 12.65 seconds and 12.69 seconds, respectively, to nab the silver and bronze medals. 

UST’s Aira Gacusan spearheaded another podium sweep for the Junior Female Tracksters in the girls’ 2000-meter walk event after registering 11:09:20 to break the previous UAAP record held by UE’s Maria Villanueva of 11:18.72.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Cervantes also set a new UAAP record in the boys’ 5000-meter walk event after registering 25:59:95, smashing the record previously held by UST’s Carlo De Imus of 27:21.67.

John Calapuan tallied another gold for the Male Tracksters as he reached 36.61 meters in the boys’ discus throw event.

Almie Aiso completed the day by settling for bronze in the boys’ 800-meter dash event after clocking 2:02.97.

UST opened the day with 2-2-2 and 2-0-1 gold-silver-bronze medal tallies in the girls’ and boys’ division.

The Junior Tracksters will be back in action for Day 2 at the same venue today, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m.
