FEROCITY and determination became the mark of the College of Commerce and Accountancy’s campaign in the third Thomasian Goodwill Games Judo Intramurals as it captured the overall championship by bagging five gold and six silver medals.

Under the mentorship of varsity player Jeffrey Aluyen, the Commerce judokas grabbed the championship in both the women and men’s division last September.

In the men’s division, Commerce took two golds courtesy of finweight Jones Bautista and featherweight Paolo Nieto. Commerce’s impressive run includes a string of silver medals chipped in by flyweight Romeo Arellano, bantamweight Mike Galza, half-middle heavyweight Bernard Gatchalian, and heavyweight Rani Roque.

Commerce’s campaign however was not without hitch as it failed to capture the most valuable player (MVP) plum in both the men’s and women’s division. With remarkable victories in their matches, Visam Calimlim from the Faculty of Arts and Letters and Lexie Saldajeno from the College of Nursing took some glitter away from Commerce’s brilliant showing as they grabbed the MVP award in the men’s and women’s class.

The College of Architecture, meanwhile, placed second in the men’s division with two gold medal finishes courtesy of half-middle heavyweight Fernando Lim and middle heavyweight Mohamad Alisha. Featherweight Philip Co and middle heavyweight Alfonso Concepcion each gave a silver to the Ateliers’ total medal haul. The College of Fine Arts and Design placed third place as lightweight John Sanchez finished with a gold, finweight Carlo Guevarra grabbed a silver, and finweight Jeremiah Cuyos and flyweight Carlos Camus both pocketed a bronze each.

On the distaff side, Commerce went home with three gold medals courtesy of finweight Annabelle Oseda, lightweight Carla Macasio and middleweight Jezza Cruz. Bantamweight Jacqueline Garcia and half-midlle heavyweight Eliza Patentino each gave a silver to the Commerce’s medal cart. Jose Bimbo F. Santos
