Dableo’s fight far from over

FOR UST Lady Woodpushers head coach Ronald Dableo, there is nothing more painful than being tagged as a cheat.

Serving a one-year suspension for alleged game-fixing, the International Master (IM) Dableo said that the decision by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) was both “inappropriate” and an “overkill” since only three players were found by the investigation committee guilty of the charges.

To Dableo’s dismay, the NCFP investigation committee co-chaired by Edmundo Legaspi and Raul Molintas slapped him with a one-year suspension when five other players—Oliver Barbosa, Chito Garma, Darwin Laylo, Merben Roque and Enerose Magno—were only banned for six-months despite their purported involvement in game-fixing.

Molintas, however, resigned last March 3 after the suspension order was released without his findings.

“Molintas’ resignation just shows that someone made a decision beyond what should be made by a committee chairman,” Dableo told the Varsitarian.

The Varsitarian tried to get Molintas’ side but he said that he could not comment on the issue as the case is still pending.
