THE UST Female Judokas won two golds and a silver medal in the NCR Ranking Championships last Sept. 17 at the AMA Computer University Gym.
Sophomores Mary Jayne Haylo and Joana de Castro dominated the -70 kg and -57 kg divisions. Meanwhile, junior judoka Vanessa Roa settled for a bridesmaid finish against University of the Philippines’ (UP) Michelle de Ocampo in the -52 kg division.
According to de Castro, joining off-season tournaments is part of the team’s extensive training in order to give the Judokas more exposure before the UAAP Judo Competition in February.
“Off-season tournaments also allow us to scout our opponents this early so we can prepare for them,” de Castro said.
