August 1, 10:58 p.m. – DESPITE Clark Bautista’s heroics in the final canto, the UST Growling Tigers failed to defeat De La Salle University Green Archers, 53-61, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Sunday.

The Tigers fell down a notch in the team standings with a 3-3 win-loss card. Plenty of turnovers and the lack of aggressiveness, which allowed for their previous wins, the Tigers’ lagged behind in the first half, 22-37, as the Green Archers penetrated the painted area.

UST, however, managed to regain composure at the start of the fourth quarter, 41-47, anchored on the succession of treys by Bautista, bolstered by two-point rushes from Chris Camus.

The Tigers continued to pounce on the Green Archers’ to come within four points, but it was not enough to topple the Archers who relied on their steady full court trapping. Rey Ian M. Cruz

  1. Pero okay lang yan. Lumaban naman ang USTe! 🙂
Pero wait, I can`t remember the last time that UST defeated De La Salle. 🙁

  2. We always have lopsided loses to la salle i dont know why. Last time we beat la salle was in 2007 where we cut down la salle’s 9 point lead in 55 seconds. Its in you tube. From 2000 to 2010 (first round), would you believe we only beat la salle once?. Among the UAAP schools, la salle is the only team that can brag that it can beat UST whenever it wants.

  3. The last time UST won against La Salle was on Aug.11, 2007. The Tigers beat the Archers in overtime, 81-73, after overhauling a 12-point deficit in the last 1:57 of the fourth quarter to force the extra period.

Kashim Mirza starred in that game, where he tallied 16 points, eight in overtime to help UST end La Salle’s 16-game winning streak against the Tigers dating back from 1999.
