20 July 2014, 7:29 p.m. – THE UST Lady Booters survived a pesky Ateneo De Manila University side, 1-0, to capture the bronze medal in their PFF Women’s Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Sunday.
Marienne Narcisco scored the lone goal of the match via a penalty kick in the 67th minute in extra time.
The Espana-based squad displayed solid defense in the dying moments to foil every Ateneo attack.
Despite the victory, UST head coach JR Judal admitted his wards still needed to improve their game in time for the UAAP.
“Sana ‘yung mga bata magsawa na [second and third place finishes]. Nagkulang lang talaga, ‘yung passing and set plays nandoon naman. Konti na lang,” he said.
The Lady Booters executed with short and crisp passes but could not find the back of the net.
Hazel Lustan had a chance to end the game early for UST but her shot went wide to the left in the 55th minute.
The Lady Booters will try to improve on their runner-up finish last year when UAAP football action opens in the second semester. Delfin Ray M. Dioquino
