UST jins trounce UAAP foes

11 September 2014, 11:35 p.m. THE UST Jins dominated the second day of the UAAP Season 77 taekwondo tournament, posting a pair of victories at The Arena in San Juan, Thursday.

The Tiger Jins remained unbeaten after four games after as they cruised past National University, 5-2, and demolished Ateneo de Manila University, 7-0.

Joaquin Mendoza secured UST’s victory after winning against Ateneo’s Marc Frigillana, 8-3, for a commanding 4-0 spread.

Ryel Joshua Ramirez and Rhayzor Catris likewise registered convincing wins for the Tiger Jins against ther Ateneo counterparts, 18-10 and 18-5, respectively.

Against the Bulldogs, Juan Miguel Ramos put the Tiger Jins ahead, 4-1, by beating Dave Ced of NU, 6-3.

“The men’s team are playing as expected. We are very confident with the team as we have a very good lineup,” UST coach Jasmine said.

Defending champion UST Lady Jins trounced the University of the East, 6-1, before escaping their long-time rival De La Salle University, 4-3, to move up to 3-1 in the team standings.

Tied at three wins apiece, UST’s Jane Narra scored an 8-5 victory over DLSU’s Paola Amon.

UST secured the win against the Lady Warriors, 4-0, after UE’s Kristine Mae Cordova withdrew against Lady Jin Bianca Go.

Narra then demolished Ysabel Mercado, 13-1.

The UST Jins will try to extend their respective winning streaks on Tuesday, September 16, at the same venue. Angelica P. Abello and Karl Cedrick G. Basco
