 – THE UST Golden Tigresses arrested their
five-game losing skid with a come-from-behind win over the Far Eastern
University Lady Tamaraws, 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23, to cap round one of
the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena
Saturday.

Pamela Lastimosa scored 17 points, while rookie Cherry Rondina added a
career-high 16 to power the Tigresses to only their second win in seven
matches.

The Tigresses overcame a one-set deficit and a tough stand by the Lady
Tamaraws to remain in the Final Four hunt.

With a 2-5 win-loss record, UST is only a game behind FEU and UP (3-4)
and 1.5 games behind NU and Adamson (3-3) for third place.

In the fourth set, Lastimosa scored a through-the-block hit to give UST
a 22-19 advantage but the Tigresses committed costly errors allowing the Lady
Tamaraws to come back and tie things up.

Jessey de Leon connected on a power tip and Chloe Cortez came through
with the block allowing the Tigresses to seal the win, 25-23.

“They are starting to become a team now. Kumbaga isa na lang ang
lakad nila,” head coach Odjie Mamon said.

With FEU at set point in the second frame, 25-24, the Tigresses racked
up three straight points including an ace from Lastimosa and an off spin by
Rondina to steal the victory, 27-25, and even the match at one set apiece.

UST then built a commanding 11-point lead in the third set, 22-11.

The second round schedule is yet to be released by the UAAP board. Karl
