Sept. 26 2016, 7:05 p.m. – THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers ran out of steam against defending champions Nazareth School of National University Bullpups, 13-25, 19-25, 26-24, 26-24, 13-15, in the UAAP Season 79 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson Gym Sunday.

UST rallied late in the final set after being down by as much as five points. But the Bullpups scored two quick points, capped by a Billie Anima combination play, to remain unbeaten.

UST, which dropped to second place with a 4-1 record, squandered 45 points from its unforced errors.

“First two sets hindi tayo gumana dahil may fear pa. ‘Yung NU kasi kilala na lumalaban sa champion pero satisfied naman tayo dahil nagpursige sila na pilitin manalo,” assistant head coach Rommel Abella told the Varsitarian.

Anima led the Bullpups with 18 points.

UST’s Rey De Vega had 15 markers while team captain Lorenz Señoron added 12.

After dropping the first two sets, the Tiger Spikers regrouped and forced a fourth set.

NU tried to dictate the match midway the fourth set, 18-14, but UST came back with 10-2 run to  arrive first at set point, 24-20. NU’s net touch violation sent the match into a decider.

The Junior Tiger Spikers will face the Adamson University on Oct. 1, Saturday, 4:30 p.m., at the same venue. Carlo A. Casingcasing
