It began earlier in medical school when Maria Luisa Ticzon and Ana Vida saw the need to extend some help to indigent patients.

"The presence of the whole University is an indication of how important the Seminary is in the life of the University. The [Central] Seminary actually is one of the most important services of the University offers,” Pedregosa said in his address. “Formation is a demand of discipleship.”

‘Year of Faith’ urges Christians to reaffirm beliefs

THE PHILIPPINES’ high rate of pornography demands Christian re-evangelization, said a priest in a lecture titled “You and the Year of Faith” at the Iraya Study Center in Sampaloc, Manila last Nov. 7.

“Our way of culture and doing has changed. That’s why we need the Year of Faith. One of the reasons why some [people’s faiths aren’t] healthy is because people now base their thinking and acting not on faith anymore,” said Fr. Manuel Belarmino, S.Th.D., executive secretary of Theological Centrum, a group that trains secular priests.

According to Tech Media Network, an international research and advertising website, the Philippines ranked No. 8 in the world in terms of revenues from pornography ($1 billion) in 2006, tying with Taiwan and Canada.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio “Chito” Tagle was made a cardinal last Nov. 24 in Vatican City, making him the second youngest cardinal in the world at age 55.

"To be called to collaborate with the Pope as a cardinal both consoles and terrifies me. I am consoled by the trust and love that the Pope shows to me, to the Archdiocese of Manila and, indeed, to the whole Church in the Philippines," Tagle said following the consistory called by Pope Benedict XVI.

Other prelates elevated to the College of Cardinals were James Michael Harvey of the United States, Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi of Lebanon, Baselios Cleemis of India, John Onaiyekan of Nigeria, and Jesus Salazar Gomez of Columbia.

Should the state revive death penalty?

“Personally, I’m really against the death penalty. No one has the right to take [away] life kasi isa lang naman ang nagbigay ng buhay e. Siya lang ang may karapatan na mag-take ng life. Humans don’t have the right to take something na hindi naman nila ibinigay.”
-Christian Apego, 4th year, Accountancy

-Acaya Ganabat, 1st year, Hospitality and Restaurant Management
