Triumvirate of young artists

“LOVE is the only reason to live,” was the resounding theme of the second exhibition of the contemporary artist group Bondman’s Key, Bondman’s Key _ First Stanza, at the UST Museum of Arts & Sciences last February 14.

The group, which was formed in 2000, is composed of three UST Advertising Arts alumni–Edrie Myrick Ocampo, Jaime Jesus Pacena, and Buen Franklyn Anthony Calubayan.

A Feast of True Filipino music

LIKE the bamboo, Filipino music sways with the wind and resonates a soothing rhythm and sound. It echoes nature like the gentle flowing of rivers and the hard pounding of rocks.

Celebratory Filipino music was featured in Musiko Mundo: Pinoy World Music Concert last Feb. 9 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The concert was part of the National Arts Month.

An amazing circus experience

Neil Goldberg’s Cirque awed Filipino audiences with its artistic and stunning acrobatics.

The production featured highly-acclaimed circus artists from Mongolia, China, United States, Russia, Hungary, Germany, and Canada.

Breaking from the conventional circus production of animal exhibition and magic tricks, Cirque portrayed circus as high theater.

Providing for a Clean Future

IN THEIR desire to make a difference, a group of nature-loving organizations united for one goal— clean and preserve Manila Bay. It started out as an annual habit of cleaning the Manila Bay. Every September, this group get together to clean Manila Bay to reclaim its lost beauty.

In Feb 5, 1990, the group was christened, OMEGA Clubs, which stands for Outdoors, Mountaineers, Ecologists, and Green Association.

Health first

CLEANING the environment is hazardous to your health. To minimize the hazards, the well-meaning cleaner should bear in mind the following:

1. Wear your most comfortable outfit and be ready to get dirty.

You will be doing a lot of bending and crouching so wear clothes which are comfortable. Protect yourself from diseases caused by insects by wearing pants and sleeved shirts so that your skin will not be exposed to their bites.

2. Wear gloves.

Frog cells for drug testing

IF ALL goes well, frogs may be credited for testing of illegal drug use among Olympic athletes.

Swedish researchers from Linköping University discovered that melanophores, melanin-containing cells on the skin of African frog Xenopus laevis, can be used in detecting the presence of prohibited drugs as reported by the March 3 issue of the New Scientist.

Virus attacks anti-viral software

EVEN antivirus softwares are now in danger. Klez.E, a worm virus that can delete and overwrite MS Word, Excel, video, image, and Internet files, can also track down and remove anti-virus programs. The most recent virus that started attacking computer systems last March 6 alarmed computer security companies based in Finland.
