A THOMASIAN graphic artist won the best front cover award during the 4th Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) last June 6 in Hongkong for his work on the Medical Observer, a local medical magazine.

Jericho Martinez, an Advertising Arts graduate, said that he was unaware of the contest.

“Our editor gave me depression as the theme for our April 2001 issue. I created two studies from which he was going to choose from. Eh, nahiya ako kasi ang konti lang nung pag-pipilian so I created another one na pang-habol lang, at ‘ yun pa ‘yung napili. My editor decided to send it there and luckily nanalo,” Martinez said.

Martinez’ work beat the entries sent by international publications like Ad Asia, Far Eastern Economic Review, Forbes, Fortune, Newsweek, and Time Asia.

Martinez received a plaque of recognition for his work which was titled “Mask of Sorrow.” Jennifer B. Fortuno
