SOMETIMES, fanatics do bizarre things to be close to the person they admire.

Last March 8, two bumbling College of Science students were apprehended after they tried to steal the picture of their “dream girl.”

The students took the picture of beauty queen cum-fencer-Justine Gabionza, but were unaware that Institute of Physical Education (IPEA) and Athletics director Fr. Emerito de Sagon, O.P. was just nearby.

Fr. de Sagon immediately called their attention. The two students were surprised upon seeing the IPEA director.

Instantly, Fr. de Sagon ordered one of the students to open his bag, where Gabionza’s picture was found neatly tucked. Fr. de Sagon quickly called the attention of security guard Merlito Abrise, who brought the students to the Office for Security Affairs (OSA).

During the inves-tigation, the two said they had a crush Gabionza. The students begged for-giveness from Fr. de Sagon. The case, however, was later referred to the Office for Student Affairs for disciplinary action.

Pictures of various athletes vying for the Mr. and Miss IPEA crown were on display at the UST gym’s entrance during the Intitute’s foundation week last March 3 to 8.

According to Fr. de Sagon, other pictures were also stolen. Among them were pictures of varsity players from the juniors’ and men’s basketball teams and women’s softball.

Fr. de Sagon said the students need not steal the athletes’ pictures because they can ask for it from the IPEA office. Billy Joe I. Allardo
