PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL) e-business corporate department vice president Roberto Diaz de Rivera urged Tourism students to explore more innovative means of promoting tourism during a convention last Feb. 21 at the Le Pavillion along Roxas Boulevard.

“Let’s move away from our comfort zones. One must be willing to try new ways to be able to catch up with the rest of the digital world,” De Rivera said in the event organized by section 3T1 of UST Tourism.

De Rivera cited the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which has adopted electronic ticketing system to record ticket sales as example.

Electronic ticketing provides security that a passenger’s ticket might be misplaced or lost and saves time and effort as transactions can be done through phone, de Rivera explained.

IATA has mandated all airlines to stop issuing paper tickets after Jan. 1, 2008.

In line with the event’s topic, “The New Frontiers of Travel,” speakers from Philippine Tourism Authority and Intel Philippines also tackled the steps being taken to promote the Philippines as a tourist and investment destination through the Internet. Edsel Van d.T. Dura
