New literature chairman named; accountancy admins, faculty appointed to industry groups

UST CENTER for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (UST CCWLS) fellows have been appointed to head the literature and creative writing programs for Academic Year 2019-2020.

Assoc. Prof. John Jack Wigley was appointed chairman of UST’s Department of Literature, replacing Asst. Prof. Joselito Delos Reyes, who is now coordinator of the department’s Creative Writing program.

Wigley was previously named director of the UST Publishing House (USTPH) in 2017, deputy director in 2012, officer in charge in 2009 and assistant to the director in 2008.

He finished his masters and doctorate degrees in literature in the University.

De los Reyes, a two-time National Book Award recipient, was Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino’s Makata ng Taon in 2013.

A Palanca award-winning poet, Assoc. Prof. Nerisa del Carmen Guevara, was appointed director of the 2020 UST National Writers Workshop.

Another UST CCWLS resident fellow, Benedict Parfan, was named deputy director of the USTPH.

Meanwhile, faculty members and administrators from the UST-AMV College of Accountancy were named to various posts in the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and National Association of Certified Public Accountants in Education (NACPAE).

Accountancy Dean Patricia Empleo was appointed chairwoman of the special committee on research and development, member of the Standing Committee of PICPA and Research Program Officer of the PICPA Foundation.

College Secretary Francisco Caliwan, Jr. was re-elected vice president of NACPAE and appointed co-chairman of the Continuing Professional Development Committee of PICPA-Metro Manila Region and the board secretary of PICPA-Western Metro Manila Chapter.

Two faculty members also took posts in PICPA. Guillermo Sebastian, who teaches accounting, finance and taxation, was appointed co-chairman of the Special Committee for Publications while Alfonso Garcera is the new board treasurer of the Western Metro Manila Chapter of PICPA.

PICPA is the accredited professional organization for certified public accountants of the Professional Regulation Commission.

The appointees will serve from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.
