UST will soon have its own drama series with an all-Thomasian cast.

The Office of the Secretary General, together with the Central Student Council (CSC) and the Student Organizations Coordinating Council (SOCC), launched the First Tomasinovela Writing Contest and Thomasian Star Search this month.

According to CSC secretary Airis Pastoral, the projects are in line with the ideals of the USTV Awards.

“UST seeks to enhance Thomasian values through the right choice of television shows through the USTV Awards,” Pastoral said. “With the Tomasinovela and the Star Search, the University hopes to promote these values even more through the emulation of Thomasian life.”

The telenovela must have a story line that can be developed into a television series script. The piece must “inspire and convey” the Thomasian core values of compassion, commitment, and competence. The story must appeal to the Thomasian audience and must communicate current social issues.

Winners of the star search will play the characters of the best Tomasinovela piece, she added. The series will be shown at the Thomasian Cable Television.

The Star Search will be conducted through a series if auditions and eliminations, SOCC president Michael Vincent Uy said. Further, the number of winners will depend on the television series’ cast requirement.

Winners of the contests will be announced during the Second USTV Awards in January.
