THE MUSEUM of Arts and Sciences (Museum) will relaunch its summer arts courses for the youth in May.

Not held for the past two years due to the SARS scare in 2003 and the 2004 National elections, the Museum will revive Kidstuff, a workshop for children aged 5 to 12 years old, and the arts camp, or art immersion program, for college students, according to assistant gallery curator Jocelyn Tullao. Both aim to promote Filipino culture among the youth, she said.

Tullao said Kidstuff has a different approach in teaching the arts to children.

“The workshop is culture-based. We teach them how to infuse culture in their drawings,” she said.

Tullao added that the seminar will also teach children how to use symbol.

Meanwhile, the arts camp will be held in Baguio City where participants will experience studio tours and lectures from artist Ben Cabrera, Kawayan de Guia, Leonard Aguinaldo, and John Frank Sabado.

“We want to expose the students to the contemporary touch of culture,” Tullao said. “The Baguio-based artists will help them realize that.”

Kidstuff will be from May 2 to 7, while the arts camp will be from May 14 to 16.
