NON-ACADEMIC employees will now receive more benefits and higher pay after the administration approved their salary reconstruction.

“We will increase the basic salary by P175 per month,” Internal Auditor Shirley Ireneo said. “Plus, a signing bonus worth P15,000 will be distributed to each regular non-academic employee.”

In addition to the wage increase, the benefits will also be tax-exempt.

“One great feature of this salary reconstruction is that their take-home pay will increase because of some tax exemptions and increase in their wage and benefits,” Human Resource Department director Atty. Manuel Beaniza of the said.

University Registrar Rodolfo Clavio added that the administration opted to legally avail of tax exemptions.

“Taxes will be levied on the basic salaries and the signing bonuses,” Clavio said.

The benefits include the P2,500 St. Thomas Aquinas bonus that will be given on the feast day of St. Thomas Aquinas, the P2,500 Union anniversary bonus given last May, a laundry allowance of P300 per month, a clothing allowance of P250 per month, and a medical allowance of P125 per month.

Employees will also get a special scholarship program which will be given to their children or to the employees themselves if they intend to study in the University. The scholarship however is for tuition only.

Under the Republic Act 6728, implemented by CHED, which gives assistance to students and teachers in private education, 70 per cent of tuition increases should go to the salary increase or the benefits of faculty, the administration, and the non-academic personnel, while the remaining 30 per cent goes to the University.

The 547 non-academic employees, who will receive 17.9 per cent of the 70 per cent, will receive P12.3 million this year and P8.4 million next year. the amounts encompass their added benefits and salary increases.

“This is the first time that the non-academic employees had a salary restructuring. All the wage increases before were added across the board regardless of the position. Now, there is equitable sharing,” Clavio said. Joanarc T. Villaflor
