A STUDENT of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) garnered the highest general weighted average (GWA) in the Quadricentennial batch.

Hotel and Restaurant Management student Raphael Alfonso Acabado, who graduated summa cum laude, had a GWA of 1.12, besting valedictorians from other colleges.

“This one is a living proof that CTHM students can really think,” Acabado said.

He added that he was honored to receive the award and added that it was a gratifying experience since the award last given in 2002 to a Faculty of Civil Law and Ecclesiastical Studies students.

“We must not brag about these achievements, instead, they should transform us into persons that inspire others by our example,” he said.

Acabado also bagged the St. Thomas Aquinas Award, Rector’s Academic Award, the Quezon Leadership Award, and the Benavides Achievement Award during the Annual Student Awards Day last March 17.

Other recipients of the Rector’s Academic Award were Ziqiang Bai (Sacred Theology), Abraham Genuino (Civil Law), Nellowe Candelario (Medicine and Surgery), Jaymelyn Ricohermoso (Pharmacy), Karla Vanesse Lunod (Arts and Letters), Rajiv Eldon Abdullah (Engineering), Tanya Judyn Co (Education), Angela Erika Cruz (Science), former Varsitarian writer Juanito Alipio de la Rosa (Architecture), Jhoanna Ross Ong (Commerce), Elaine Sara Lim (Music), Beverlyn Lynne Ong (Nursing), April Joy Carandang (Rehabilitation Sciences), former Varsitarian artist Alexa Remalante (Fine Arts and Design), and Janine G. Sy (AMV-College of Accountancy).

The Varsitarian, the Central Student Council, the Student Organization Coordinating Council and many other organizations also received the St. Dominic Award for Outstanding Teamwork for the success of the Quadricentennial events last year. Darenn G. Rodriguez
