Jan. 17, 2015, 2:29 a.m. – REMAINING in God’s presence is
being a “participant” in fulfilling his will and valuing the act of prayer.

On the second day of the
Philippine Conference on the New Evangelization (PCNE), Caceres Archbishop
Rolando Tria Tirona called on participants to sustain their blessedness.

He also urged Filipinos to seek
help from the Blessed Mother in strengthening their faith as Christians and
“disciples of Jesus.”

“We cannot speak of our
Filipino faith and even universal faith without the Blessed Mother,” said Tria
Tirona, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)
Commission on Social Action, Justice and Peace, at the UST Quadricentennial
Pavilion on Friday. “She has to enter the picture of our faith.”

Other speakers included Mike
Velarde of the El Shaddai Movement, George and Cynthia Campos who participated
in the recent the Synod on the Family, Fr. Gil Hernandez, and Fr. Manoling
Francisco.

A prayer concert, featuring
performances by Noel Cabangon, Laarni Lozada, Aia de Leon, and Fatima Soriano,
concluded the second day of the conference.

Contrary to earlier
announcements, not all participants were given slots at the UST Open Field for
Pope Francis’ encounter with the youth on Jan. 18. Only those who completed the
registration before Jan. 7 were given passes.

The PCNE II, with the theme
“Blessed are you,” aims to discuss the meaning of blessedness according to
Jesus in response to the Church’s call for a new evangelization. Roberto
A. Vergara, Jr.
