April 6, 2016, 6:36p.m. – THE UNIVERSITY raised its passing rate in the March 2016 licensure examinations for mechanical engineers as more Thomasians took the exam.

UST registered an 81.08-percent passing rate, with 30 Thomasians making the cut out of 37 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was significantly higher than last year’s 55.56-percent passing rate, with five passing out of nine UST examinees. 

Marina Melendres Luchavez of University of Cebu topped this year’s licensure examinations with a 90.60-percent score. Batangas State University was declared the sole top-performing school, with a 96.72-percent passing rate (59 out of 61 examinees).

This year’s national passing rate slid to 55.32 percent, with just 910 passing the test out of 1,645 examinees. Last year’s passing rate was 59.26 percent, with 739 making the cut out of 1,247 takers.

UST’s mechanical engineering program was recently declared a Center of Development by the Commission on Higher Education, effective April 1, 2016 to Dec. 31, 2018. Dayanara T. Cudal
