Nov. 6 2016, 10:23 p.m. – TWO THOMASIANS are among those nominated for a Supreme Court post to be vacated in December.
Civil Law faculty member and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao and Thomasian alumnus Apolinario Bruselas, Jr. are among the 14 vying to succeed Associate Justice Jose Perez who is set to retire on Dec. 14.
Dimaampao, who teaches taxation, commercial law and civil law in UST, was nominated by Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman.
He also teaches at the University of the East, Far Eastern University and Manuel L. Quezon University.
Dimaampao, who finished law at the University of the East in 1987, is said to be the first Muslim bar reviewer. He was a senior state prosecutor and member of the University of the Philippines Law Center.
Bruselas, who was recognized for judicial excellence by the Supreme Court in 2003, finished his primary and secondary education in UST as an honor student. He obtained his law degree from the University of the Philippines. Maria Crisanta M. Paloma
