Asst. Prof Aurora Tuble, who taught communication and journalism courses at the Faculty of Arts and Letters, died on Sunday after battling pancreatic cancer for two years. She was 52.
Tuble taught in Artlets beginning 1999 and briefly served as journalism coordinator from 2005 to 2006.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in communication arts at St. Paul University in Quezon City in 1986 and finished her master’s degree at Ateneo de Manila University in 2002.
Tuble was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015.
In a Facebook post, former journalism coordinator Jeremaiah Opiniano said Tuble’s 22 years of teaching in the University was her legacy.
“We thank you Au for the warmth, kindness and patience you have extended to your numerous [communication arts and journalism students.] We also appreciate your friendship and your support to our department, and the journalism program,” Opiniano said.
Fellow communications professor Faye Abugan said Tuble was one of the “most competent” professors in the University, producing professionals in the fields of journalism and mass communication.
“[She was] one of the most competent and kindest colleagues in [Artlets]. She will be missed sorely. Truly a great loss to the department,” Abugan told the Varsitarian in an interview.
Messages of sympathy from Tuble’s former students poured out on social media.
Julius Fernandez, former Central Board of Students speaker, paid tribute to his former mentor.
“I am blessed to have been able to stand in her presence, share tiny tears leading to laughters, and reminisce, but as colleagues, as members of the noblest profession of all, and in the same unobviously rigorous academic discipline of communication,” Fernandez wrote on Facebook.
The Artlets Student Council said: “The Artlets community extends its deepest condolences to the family of Asst. Prof. Aurora Tuble. Our never-ending gratitude for the wisdom and knowledge that she has imparted to her students will remain…”
