WALWAL” days are over as UST’s iconic Tapsi restobar will no longer sell alcoholic drinks as part of a city-wide crackdown under new Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno.

The establishment on Asturias Street sold its last bottle of liquor Saturday, Aug. 17, but will remain open for business as a regular restaurant.

Susundin na namin [‘yong utos] dahil mas lalong ipapasara kung makikipag-talo pa,” an employee told the Varsitarian.

(We will just follow orders because we might be ordered to shut down if we argue with authorities.)

Moreno signed an order to strictly implement an ordinance against the sale of liquor within 200 meters of schools.

Tapsi, located about 170 meters from UST’s Dapitan gate, has been a favorite watering hole of Thomasians since it opened 33 years ago.

In a Facebook post in 2015, poet and TV personality Lourd De Veyra poked fun at how fellow Thomasians, then and now, spent their school allowance to have a great time at the two-story Tapsi.

R. R. L. Arugay, C.R.C. Magpali, C.A.H. Torres
